I received my Torchwood season 1 dvds last week and I’ve just started watching them. I’ve never seen the series broadcast; I just knew I’d love it based on the description and the fact that it had Captain Jack. And, boy oh boy, was I right about that!
I’ve only seen the first two episodes, but, my God, is this a good show. I have a feeling it’s going to rank just behind Doctor Who season 1 as an all time favorite. I may have to add a Torchwood section to Twisting Time.

I started watching Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip from the first episode of the original broadcast. I really liked the characters of Matt and Danny and, even though that episode was a tad…sluggish…I was looking forward to seeing more of their friendship and partnership. Besides, I was happy to see another Sorkin/Schlamme show on the air. I had high hopes that the magic would strike for a third time. Continue Reading »

Finally, finally, finally! TVShowsonDVD.com announced that the first season of the Invisible Man will be out on DVD in March 2008!
This was the first time (for me) where the SciFi Channel announced it’s own utter stupidity by cancelling this show. Unfortunately, their stupidity continues (the latest I can think of is the cancellation of the Dresden Files). I’d despaired that they would ever release I-Man on DVD, even though it was, and is, extremely popular. Now I just have to see that pre-order link on Amazon to really believe it’s coming.
I’ve got to find some I-Man icons…

My husband and I just finished watching the complete Dresden Files on DVD. I’d already seen it, but he hadn’t and I found a comment he made about half-way through the episodes to be very telling about the state of TV today. Basically, he said something to the effect of “What the hell are the networks (including SciFi) thinking, to cancel a well-written, well-acted, intriguing show like Dresden, but keep the ton of dreck on the air that they do?”
This, from a man who isn’t a huge SF or fantasy fan, but who can appreciate a good show. We now have what I’m referring to as our “13 shows and yer out” DVD collection — Firefly, Dresden Files, Wonderfalls, Miracles — shows that were definitely cancelled too early, without giving them a chance to find their audience, or just to exist because, yes, they were that good.
Do we really need that Figure Skating with the Has-Beens show taking up air time when gems like Dresden Files could be aired instead??

I’m in the middle of watching the season 2 dvds of Supernatural. I really do love this show. And yet, I just can’t get fannish about it. Not sure why that is, but it’s similar to the way I feel about Due South — love the show, couldn’t care less about being fannish.
I’m also rarely scared by the stories. I find them suspenseful and enjoyable — definitely clever and full of character development — but not really all that scary. I know I’m in the minority in that regard, but that’s okay. I’m not really watching it to be scared.
I think I’m also in the minority in regards to my opinion about John Winchester. I’ve seen a fair amount of sentimental posts about father John — most of which I disagree with. There’s no doubt that John Winchester is a passionate man. He also has a fair amount of charisma — something I attribute to the actor, not the character. But I disagree with the idea that he’s some tragic romantic figure and that he’s a great father because he took care of his sons the best way that he could. I think he’s a flawed individual who was hell bent on revenge and who fooled himself into thinking he was doing the best thing he could for the boys. Maybe he had few choices. But he also chose to live the way he did. His choices were never about what was best for them, but what fueled his quest for revenge. I fully expect to see his selfish decision (to trade his soul for Dean) to come back and bite them all in the ass (whether it’s in season 2 or 3 or later).
The twisted mythology and snarky dialogue keeps me coming back for more. Throw in the depth of feeling the brothers show for each other and it’s a keeper.

I’ve been pondering the season 2 premiere of Heroes for the last few days. I’m amazed that I was as riveted by this episode as I was by the premiere last year. There were so many things to love, but I think my favorite part of the episode was learning that Matt and Mohinder are living together and taking care of Molly. As soon as I saw that, I knew the fanfic wouldn’t be far behind (and I mean that in a good way). Hell, I’m even considering trying my hand at a story or two.
I’m not so thrilled with new people getting added to the cast. I guess I’ll be okay with it, so long as the original cast gets plenty of story time. Even better would be if they’re only temporary additions. I am really looking forward to having this season’s story lines play out.
I stuck around after Heroes and watched Journeyman. Not a lot to say, really, about this show yet. I’m on the fence about whether it’s going to be something that I’ll be watching on a regular basis. The premise was…interesting…enough, I suppose. I basically enjoyed the story, but–and it’s a pretty big but–I didn’t actually watch the entire episode. There was a section in the middle where I kind of lost interest and drifted off to do other things. I decided to see how it ended and watched the last 15 minutes or so–and found that I could pretty much fill in the blanks of what I missed without any real effort. Not a good sign.
The other thing that I found a bit off-putting was the main character’s accent. I’d never seen the actor before, but he sounded wrong somehow. I only found out what the problem was after the show, when I checked him out on imdb.com and found out he’s British (I think–at least he’s not American). The guy isn’t a bad actor, but he definitely needs to work on his American accent.

I’m struggling to figure out how much real life content to include in this blog. On the one hand, I originally intended this to be a “fannish” only blog–to complement the fan websites I maintain–and not to post any real life stuff. But I’m finding that it’s harder than I thought to separate things. The lines blur when it comes to discussing likes and dislikes and get downright illusionary when talking about opinions (and why I hold them).
I don’t want to bore anyone with my own personal life experiences (assuming anyone out there is actually reading this). But…it is my blog. I suppose I should feel able to write about anything that crosses my mind.

I really love this show! I kinda doubt that I’ll become too fannish about it, but I’m really enjoying watching it. I love the snarkiness of the characters — always a plus for me. I also like the juxtaposing of the “good deed” with Michael’s quest to find out why he was burned and who did it. Keeps things interesting. And even though it has a lot of humor, I’m also glad to see that the show acknowledges that there’s a dark side to being whatever Michael is (agent? operative? what do you call him?).
I was very happy to hear that it’s already been picked up for a second season.

Posted 260 screencaps from the Fifth Doctor serial, Arc of Infinity, to the Image Gallery at Twisting Time.
Next mini-project will be making some icons from the caps.

My Fifth Doctor DVDs (Time Flight and Arc of Infinity) arrived from amazon.uk yesterday! Yay! Two more episodes with Tegan and the Doctor.
I saw Time Flight many years ago on PBS and vaguely remember it, but I’ve never seen Arc of Infinity. I’m looking forward to watching them both for several reasons. First, to see what happens (canon plots, even the most…boring…are always useful to know first hand). Next, to watch the character interactions. And finally, just to enjoy.
I foresee new screencaps coming in the near future. Woo-hoo!
